Interessieren sich Sie für das Reisen?

Are you interested in traveling to Austria? If so, there are green forms in the office which you should be aware about. The exchange process means that you host a student from Austria during October and then travel to Austria, with a group of students during the month of March. When you are in Austria you get a chance to partake in their culture and their way of learning. The students who participated in the program last year all agreed it was an amazing trip. Please hand in the green forms by June 9th, and if you wish to learn more about this trip or have any questions please talk to Mr.Hamilton.

Tact Finished!

A great show was put on by Point Grey's Theater PM group. Tact, a traveling play, follows a teenager, Hank, through a fantasy land after he loses his tact. Along the way, he encounters a talking rabbit with a french accent, people dressed in garbage, and a King and Queen bent on keeping him as a slave. The play incorporated a live band, stilt walkers, and the roof of the school. Best wishes to Jahrrico Brown, who broke his wrist while performing the play.

This year's grade 9/10 awards show was a great success. With almost half of attendants receiving an award, whether it was for athletics, or academics. Some notable recipients included Jack Ferris, who won every award relating to service; Alwyn Sun, achieving the same feat as Jack; May Xing, who won the Student of the Year award; Alistair Russel, who won multiple awards, including a prestigious Silver Greyhound Pin; and Jake Kelava and Minsoo Kim, who each won every award relating to the Fine Arts Program. Congratulations to all recipients.

Premier Girls Finish 6th in the Province!

After a weekend in Victoria, BC, the premier team is back and Vancouver. These hounds battled hard in each of their 5 games. They proved that Point Grey is definately a force in the soccer world.

The girls started of the tournament in their pool of 4, and finished second, right behind Fleetwood. This assured them a top 8 finish at provincials. Next, after an intense shoot-out win against South Delta, the team prepared for their final game together against McMath for 5th place.

At the end of the first half, our hounds were down 2-0, but managed to come back in the second half and tied it 2-2. Then, after two intense overtime periods, the girls faced a shoot-out finish once again. It was a close battle and Point Grey gave it their best, and managed to place 6th in the province! Way to go hounds!

The Point Grey Secondary Golf team recently went to Salmon Arm, BC to participate in the BC golf provincials. Coming off a 2nd place finish at cities, the Point Grey team headed to Salmon Arm with confidence. They were accompanied by Mr. Smith and Mr. O'Connor. Stronger players including Joshua Zhang, who also received the most inspiration player award, and Jack Ferris teed off with hopes of bringing back the championship. Falling short of #1, they placed a respectable 19th in the province. Great job golf team!

Exams

Summer is almost here! Are you thinking that it is time to start slacking off? Well not just yet! Exams are already in progress but we still have many left to go. All students, grades 8 through 12 have exams to attend. The exam schedules are posted in, or outside, many Point Grey classrooms so if you still haven't checked when your exam times and dates are then it is time to do so. Provincial exam information is also posted on many posters in the school. If you are not able to find a schedule then please see your guidance counselor or one of your teachers; they will be able to help you. Remember that exams are very important; they are worth much more than a regular test so start studying now! Also, students should note that cell phones are not allowed during the exams so turn them off or leave them at home!

Award Ceremonies

Point Grey has just finished off the year with its annual final term awards ceremonies. The award ceremonies are an important Point Grey tradition where students who excel in many different areas can be celebrated. There are service awards, fine arts awards awards and, of course, scholarship awards. All grades, 8 - 12, had an assembly to present these awards to the students. Mr. Clark and the grade counsellors did a great job presenting the awards. In some cases the competition for these awards was so tight that the awards had to be split between two students: for example, the grade 8 girls, grade 8 boys, grade 9 girls, and grade 9 boys athletic awards were all tied, with 2 students taking home trophies.

The assemblies proved what Point Grey students and staff already know, that Point Grey is a school full of talented, hard working, and inspiring people. It made everyone proud to say, "I am a Point Grey Greyhound!"
